Go Around Back’s mid-week special:
College Bowl
and Playoff Edition
Suggested rule changes for 2023-24, in no particular order:
- Time-outs cannot be called from the sidelines.
- Time-outs cannot be called after the offense is set at the line of scrimmage.
- Better, no time-outs can be called. Play the damn game.
- While we are on the subject, neither will going out of bounds or an incomplete pass stop the clock.
- No coach can be more than one yard above the level of the playing field.
- Not that that will matter because headsets will be banned.
- As soon as the class of 2026 graduates, football will become a club sport and begin running on a 24-second clock.
- No coach of any club sport shall make more than 1/1000 of the $11M per year Dabo Swinney is guaranteed through 2031.*
One for the NFL to be instituted immediately:
- What is this spiking-the-ball schismagola but (at least) intentional grounding? How can anything be more throwing the ball not to a receiver but to the ground? Meaning 10 yards from the previous spot and loss of down, right? The clock begins on the referee's signal. Better yet, adopt next year’s college rule: the clock never stops!
_______________
* About the claim, see here. About the salary: It is a total of $99M in case you were wondering, $98,756,000 more than the first name, image and likeness of God made in his 11 years as a carpenter before he went on the road — in 2031 dollars.
