Guns are for shooting.

What guns are for.

Simply told:
  1. Lavoy Finicum had a gun.
  2. He was shot by a man with a gun.

What's catching our sophomoric eye

David Smith in the Guardian -
Robert Gates, a Republican stalwart and former US defence secretary who served under eight presidents, has derided the party’s election candidates for a grasp of national security issues that “would embarrass a middle schooler”.  Gates, who knows defense but (clearly) no middle schoolers, went on to say . . .

Paula Broadwell holding her book on David Petraeus. Pun not intended.

because: “Well, he’s growing weak. He’s running out of energy. He’s just weak, if you know what I mean, low-energy. Afraid of girls, that’s what it is, he’s afraid of girls. Low-energy. Weak. To be frank, he’s low-energy and weak.”

Nasheandmel Rifle Association Position Paragraph

We don’t apply the second amendment the way we do the first. For example, we would not prevent a felon from starting his own blog, but we do prevent his purchasing a gun. We do limit who can bear arms. This is the purpose of background checks, which almost all agree are good public policy. Among others, the following may have their right to bear arms infringed: permits are
not granted felons or those with mental disease or defect, minors, drug users, even in New Jersey “habitual drunkards.”  The way forward then, we believe, is to follow this line of legal reasoning to its logical conclusion. In whose hands are guns dangerous? May we suggest jackasses, at the least; but, no, let’s be truly reasonable: permits should be denied all sinners.

Less Syrans, more guns

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley

We really don’t want no more Syrans down here. We already got seven or eight – not sure about the one but you can bet we will be, because we’re takin safety issues very serously in this state. That’s why I’m suin the President: 1. We don’t want no more Syrans anymore than Texas does. They already got over 200, and their crime rate is staying more than even. Even idn’t good enough for us, so    2. Guns – we need more not less. Right now we got barely over 2,300,000 in the state. I don’t know how many that is per Syran – yall can do the math – but it’s not enough. Not near.
