Need a gun yesterday? Wisconsin's now one place to go.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker dons his NRA hoodie* and strikes a pose before signing a bill removing the 48-hour waiting period to purchase firearms in his state. Because “when you need a gun, you don't need it in two days, you need it now.”  (Captured on canvas for the state museum by Walworth County artist, Dwayne LaPierre.)
You talkin' to me?

Jean Sibelius

I have been listening to Lindsey Graham (R-SC): President Obama’s foreign policy has failed, is continuously failing, and we are losing standing in the world.

My take: Good! Here is a case where failure is a success the more standing we lose the better. We can stop constantly beating our chests and waving our index fingers in the air – “we’re number 1” – angry as athletes.
We would be happier as Finland.

The wisdom of legislators and Betty White

Gleanings from today's Washington Post online:

Secret CIA effort in Syria faces large funding cut
by Greg Miller and Karen De Young

Key lawmakers have moved to slash funding of a secret CIA operation to train and arm rebels in Syria, a move that U.S. officials said reflects rising skepticism of the effectiveness of the agency program and the Obama administration’s strategy in the Middle East.

The House Intelligence Committee recently voted unanimously yadayada yadayada yadayada.

Separately, legislators moved to redirect all savings to the poor.*

Betty White explains to non-smoking President
Obama how Rue McClanahan died in 2010.

Add that to Caitlin Dewey’s wonderful weekly: What was fake on the Internet this week. (This week: Rue McClanahan’s death and Obama smoking.)#

The case of P. Donald Jiron, who resigned from the National Weather Service, so he could be hired as a consultant to fill his own job – at a yearly increase of $93,200. Because his superiors agreed that this could be done, Jiron’s lawyer, Matthew Kaiser contends that his client “has done nothing wrong – legally – actually nothing wrong at all, assuming, of course, that he has no conscience.” For the true story, see Lisa Rein’s piece in this morning’s Washington Post online.  Click here.

Faith views Him in the watery grave,
And thence beholds Him rise.
